Location: is a landlocked country in the Carpathian Basin of Central Europe, bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia.

Total area: 93,030 sq km

Population: 9,956,108 (July 2007 est.), Hungarian 92.3%.

Capital: Budapest

Climate: continental climate, with cold, cloudy, humid winters and warm to hot summers. Average annual temperature is 9C. Temperature extremes are about 42 C in the summer and −29C in the winter. Average temperature in the summer is 27 to 35 C, and in the winter it is 0 to −15 C.

Official language: Hungarian

The political structure: parliamentary democracy. President elected by the National Assembly for a five-year term.I

nternational organization participation: NATO, UN, UNESCO, WTO.  Hungary has been a member state of the European Union since May 1, 2004.

Religion:  Roman Catholic 51.9%, Calvinist 15.9%, Lutheran 3%, Greek Catholic 2.6%, other Christian 1%.
